→ ordered a bunch of materials…….a few different cooling systems (*UPDATE: DHL sidequest failed and my heatsinks + fans are still M.I.A.✈︎) to test out with the latex /sheath/ …. the anxiety about overheating my rpi is building!!

→ successfully installed yunohost after struggling, reflashing, and making my living room into a dangerous labyrinth of semi-suspended cables — weaving my web~

had a few weird issues like:

• installed successfully the 1st time, but after a weekish away & reboot, my yunohost.local was down…. couldn’t figure it out why from looking @ my monitor & didn’t have the resources to do anything about it anyway —my monitor is an ancient german tv and my keyboard is a similarly antiquated universal remote made in “west germany” ??? (jk hehe)

• decided to reformat my SD & reflash: bumpy start, but after another reboot we were good 2 go

• configuring my DNS was a small nightmare, because the original domain registrar i used doesn’t support AAAA or CAA records. dumb. also the domain hasn’t had its 60-day bday yet, so i couldn’t transfer….registered a new domain on namecheap and learned my registrar lesson

• also had issues with yunohost being able to access my server’s ports , but after some router exploration that made me feel very hackey — my diagnostics showed no issues!

→ break! reading patti smith on the train to berlin. had a sweet meetup with neuza & arvin at a cozy cafe and arvin reassured me about my cooling concerns~

→ i used my_webapp on yunohost to publish the static website that is the meat of fsserver. i was initially commited to uploading site files using SSH, but after hours of troubleshooting:

• 403 errors
• permissions permissions permissions
• config file mess abouts
• a lot of unsuccessful SSL handshaking
• yunohost domain & app routing

i decided to stop being a terminal purist and use FileZilla for a more intuitive GUI experience.

*UPDATE: my frustration with yunohost & my_webapp conflicts has grown — so i've ditched yunohost altogether and moved to using nginx directly + a cloudflare tunnel. this walkthrough was extremely helpful!

→ obviously, now that she was dressed, i had to have a photoshoot w my new bff

→ it's live! with much room for development —fsserver is relatively functional, and in conversation with swer peers who have provided feedback on how to make her more accessible/usable. against my own nature, i had to draw a lot of "good enough for now" boundaries with myself, which i've ultimately come to appreciate as i work more collaboratively with ppl on content.

my goal for this project was to create a tool...but maybe the real treasure was the interconnected histories of sex work/censorship/the military industrial complex/imperialism/colonialism we found along the way....... i went deep in the research-hole for the sex worker history of technology & the internet (S.W.H.O.T.T.I.) section of the site (lots of gratitude for the work of #SurvivorsAgainstSesta, Hacking//Hustling, Livia Foldes’s Sex Workers Built the Internet, and Gabriella Garcia’s Decoding Stigma) — and unearthed serious lore. western railroad towns built off the earnings of brothels & madams becoming→ telecommunication & internet backbones,, teletext ASCII porn, Lena Forsén's Playboy spread being used for early jpeg compression algos, porn sites pioneering cookies & payment verification, the implications of the TVPA, Patriot Act, and SESTA/FOSTA on digital surveillance. my wish is to see a timeline like this incorporated into mainstream narratives of internet history. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁
